To all Parents and Team Members,
I hope all swimmers have experienced success in their swimming lessons or training over the summer months, whether it be advancing up a level or achieving personal goals.
The State Swim system has three distinct stages (The ‘Swim and Play’ Program, the ‘400 Gold’ Program and the ‘Health and Sport’ Program) to guarantee that every pupil receives the best aquatic education, enabling them to progress at a pace that suits their individual needs.
Our program runs all year round allowing continuity for swimmers and we also constantly assess our swimmers, allowing them to progress quickly through our program.
At this time of the year, children are generally not swimming at school, in their backyard pool or at the beach. Often, children are not in the water at all, and for this reason we recommend for lessons to continue over the cooler months so swimmers can keep advancing through the levels. To assist your child’s ongoing improvement, we urge families to take short regular breaks of no more than 4-6 weeks. Taking longer breaks sees children struggle to maintain their skills and we often find when they book back in they have lost some of their base skills and have regressed.
We understand that school, homework and extracurricular activities see children’s timetables become very busy, and breaks from activities are an important part of developing skills. However, to ensure your child does not regress, regular swimming is important. Even a week of SWIMVAC during each school holiday period will assist in maintaining the skills your child has already achieved, and through regular swimming, your child will be even more advanced next summer.
Remember, learning to swim well is your child’s best survival skill.
